The first season of Fleabag premiered in 2016 and was an instant hit. The series was adapted from a one-woman stage play by Phoebe Waller-Bridge at Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2013. Fleabag originally premiered in August of 2016 on BBC two and made its debut on Amazon Prime in September of 2016. The second season of the show aired in 2019 and became a cultural phenomenon.
Phoebe’s character is popular as Fleabag. Phoebe shed light on the show’s name in an interview with Decider in 2016. “I also wanted something that would create an immediate subtext for the character,” she said. “So, calling her ‘Fleabag,’ calling the show Fleabag, gives the subtext of ‘Fleabaggy-ness.’ Then presents herself so…nice hair, lipstick, coat… like, nailed it. She looks like she’s got stuff together, and yet her name betrays the subtext of her.”
This show was written, created, produced, and starred Phoebe as the young woman who is coping with her life in London while surviving a tragedy. Season 2 of this show won 2 Golden Globes and 4 Primetime Emmy Awards. Many fans wish to know about season 3 of this show.
It however does not look like there will be a season 3 of Fleabag. Phoebe has mentioned that she is done with the show for now. She told the same to The Hollywood Reporter in 2019. “I feel like it’s done, but I do have a fantasy of bringing her back when I’m, like, 45 or 50,” she said. “She went on the biggest journey over the past 2 seasons, and she started as someone who sort of hated herself and ended up as someone believing that she could love again and forgive herself. I have to respect that arc and let her go and live for a bit.” She further said that “the reasons to end never felt as guttural as they do now… “I’m a big follower of the old gut.”
At the Emmys in 2019, Phoebe had mentioned that she may end the show after the second season. Phoebe had shared with the press backstage after her win, “To be honest, this just feels like the most beautiful, beautiful way to say goodbye to it, actually. It does feel like the story is complete… It does feel right.”
In March 2019, Phoebe had said season 2 of Fleabag was the “final curtain”. She told BBC,“I have thought about it and there isn’t going to be one. This is it—this is the final curtain. And yes, I did say that last time.”
Andrew Scott will be happy to return if Season 3 does happen for Fleabag. He will come back as the Hot Priest. He told TV Insider in 2019, “Without a shadow of a doubt. I’ll do whatever she asks. But I like the fact that the chapter is closed for now because I think it was a beautiful, perfect ending. It was a beautiful ending.”
