The previous week’s episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier provided an insight into Walker that was unexpected. You can see Walker suffering from a mental breakdown which causes him to kill Nico who was a member of Flag Smashers. He killed Nico in cold blood by using Captain America’s shield which belonged to the noble Steve Rogers. This week we saw the aftermath of this incident.
Walker is suffering from flashbacks of his best friend’s death who was Battlestar/Lamar Hoskins and also of killing Nico. Walker is then confronted by Bucky and Sam who dislike his method of murdering the enemy for revenge. This leads to a fight which leaves the New Captain America with a dislocated or a broken arm.
John is then discharged after a hearing from the military and also stripped of his mantle of being Captain America. But since he has a stellar record, he does not receive any more disciplinary action. He however argues that the government gave him orders and he did exactly what they wanted him to do. His wife Olivia and him are then contacted by Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine who supports the killing of Nico.
Sam on the other hand visits Isaiah again and manages to get him to talk about the various experiments conducted on him with regards to the Super Soldier Serum. Bradley comes clean about being the sole survivor amongst all subjects. Scientists experimented on him to find out why the Serum failed on others but not on him.
You can also see this week that Bradley was injected with a different serum from what was given to Captain Rodgers. Isaiah shows Sam a scar from all the experiments. He also shares with him that people will not accept a Captain America who is black.
Sam then comes home to his nephews Cass and AJ and his sister Sarah. He talks to neighbors so that they can help in fixing his mom and dad’s fishing boat. Sam is later annoyed when Bucky arrives and flirts with Sarah. They then put all their disagreements in the past and talk about how Steve wanted Sam to use the shield since he could create a path for himself while also honoring what the shield stands for.
Bucky tells Sam that he was sad that The Falcon had decided to return the shield to the administration since for him the shield was a reminder of his best friend. It did imply that maybe Steve and Bucky were more than friends. They were brothers who were fighting for the same cause.
After understanding what he must do, Sam starts training using the shield and with the assistance of his beloved nephews. Sam has always admired Steve. It was a big deal for him to have received the shield. He returned the shield to the government because he felt people would not accept a black Captain America. Isaiah was talking about the same thing.
