This Verzuz was for R&B fans. Halle Berry enjoyed every moment of SWV going head to head with Kandi Burruss, Tiny Harris, and Xscape.
SWV and Xscape ruled R&B and pop in the 1990s and they are taking on Instagram now. On May 8, Saturday, both these iconic groups battled in the new “Verzuz” battle in Timbaland. This event was joined in by many stars including Halle Berry. She tweeted everything as it was happening live and seemed very excited. When SWV was singing “Weak” she commented, “Love all of the ladies, thank you for making my weekend beautiful.” She was responded by a fan, “@halleberry quoting an obscure but known Xscape track was not on our menu tonight.”
Kandi Burruss also went viral after she sang an amazing note while singing ” Understanding”. The music was gone, even then the quartet kept on singing in a cappella chorus while the audience sang in the comment section. SWV slew the song ” Right Here” which was a winning moment for many fans.
Xscape’s members include Tameka “Tiny” Harris, Kandi, and sisters Tamika Scott and LaTocha Scott. They sang hit after hit while the event went on. The women also sang their super sexy hit from 1998 called “My Little Secret.” It was produced by Jermaine Dupri. Dupri also produced the cover of “Who Can I Run To?” as well as other songs in the sponsored stream by Urban Decay.
Tiny said, “What’s up everybody, it’s your girl Tiny!” while Kandi who was seen in the Real Housewives of Atlanta introduced herself as “And it’s your girl Kandi!” Tamika and LaTocha said, “And we’re Xscape!” Tiny added, “I don’t know what ya’ll gonna do because we haven’t started rehearsing or anything — and SWV is going to kill ya’ll.” It seems Kandi loved the competition while saying they were friendly with SWV. She said, “I am excited about the Verzuz — I think that it’s really cool because we get along with SWV, we have a sisterhood but it’s you know, a friendly competition.”
SWV’s members include Tamara Johnson-George, Coko Clemons, and Leanne “Lelee” Lyons. They also gave an amazing performance with many of their hits. They sang from their debut album from 1992, songs such as “Right Here,” and “I’m So Into You”. They also sang their New Beginning song from 1996, “You’re The One.” It was amazing seeing the three singers sing together and they looked like they were enjoying the performance just as much as the viewers were enjoying listening to them.
In a promo, Coko said, “We are three young ladies from New York City — we are super dope.” The singers were seen talking about their children right before Mother’s Day. Lelee said, “It’s exciting just knowing all the ladies that are participating — we are all mothers. We have something to live for — we all have children — and we all grew up in this industry together.”
