New York Governor Andrew Cuomo shared that he is checking his legal options with regards to the census results. Cuomo lost a House seat and believes it is due to Former President Donald. He said Trump made immigrants that were illegal “nervous to come forward” when the census was taking place.
New York lost a congressional seat because of the census results and if 89 more people had been counted then they would have been allowed to keep the complete delegation.
Cuomo told journalists on Tuesday that he is looking to overturn census results. Cuomo himself has been fighting various sexual misconduct allegations. He said, “Despite a growing state population, New York State’s congressional delegation will lose a seat in the House of Representatives next year, having fallen an equally-unprecedented 89 responses short of continuity. Do I think it was accurate to within 89? No. And we’re looking at legal options, because when you’re talking about 89 that could be a minor mistake in counting right?”
Last year in December, USA Today reported that New York state’s “population continued to decline more than any state in the nation” between 2019 July and 2020 July.
NY Governor Andrew Cuomo believes his state lost the congressional seat because of Former President Trump. He said, “Census takers in New York faced unprecedented challenges last year in their efforts to get New Yorkers counted – from the pandemic’s effect on the mail system to the Trump Administration’s xenophobic, flagrant, and illegal efforts to hurt blue states by discouraging non-citizens and people of color from being counted.”
The Gov. of New York believes that immigrants who are living illegally in New York were “nervous to come forward” when the census was being counted. He said, “Look, you had a lot going on. You had people who were nervous to come forward, right? You have undocumented people who are nervous to come forward. I do believe the federal government had a chilling effect.”
In 2020, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) had constantly requested immigrants who were illegal to step forward and be a part of the census. She had said, “Every single person, no matter your documentation status, no matter your housing status, income, etc., is to be counted.” She has previously called illegals immigrants “my constituents.”
Former President Trump had signed an order last year in July which stated that immigrants who were illegals will not be counted when considering population numbers. He did this so that the electoral districts could be redrawn.
Trump had released a statement at that time saying, “There used to be a time when you could proudly declare, ‘I am a citizen of the United States.’ But now, the radical left is trying to erase the existence of this concept and conceal the number of illegal aliens in our country. This is all part of a broader left-wing effort to erode the rights of American citizens, and I will not stand for it.”
