A telehealth technology company, fired its CEO after he went viral for harassing a gay teenager because he wore a dress to his prom. Many sources have reported that VisuWell fired Sam Johnson because his horrible exchange with Dalton Stevens went viral. A video of this incident at Harpeth Hotel was taken on Saturday and it has been shared all over social media.
The footage was captured by Dalton’s boyfriend, Jacob Geittman. It clearly shows Sam, 46, following Stevens who seemed sad. Sam was throwing insults and being a homophobe. He can be heard in the video, saying, “You look like an idiot” to the 18-year-old teenager.
The teen, however, did not let Sam insult him, he said I am “gorgeous” and you can hear Sam mocking him by saying “are you?” Sam can then be seen trying to snatch the phone away from Jacob and in the process, he also hit Stevens in the arm. Jacob shared this footage on TikTok and Kathy Griffin tweeted it and thus the video went viral. Griffin also shared the identity of Sam Johnson and his wife.
Kathy Griffin tweeted, “If this is Sam Johnson in Nashville, Tennessee, the CEO of @VisuWell, healthcare-tech-growth strategist, married to Jill Johnson where they may reside in Franklin, Tennessee, it seems like he’s dying to be online famous. ????♀️????️????????♀️”
Sam has however denied these allegations and even though everything is clear in the video, he says the teenagers were being vulgar around families and the video is edited.
His place of work however did not buy his story. Visuwell shared a statement that said they had dismissed Sam as the video went viral. The statement said, “We unequivocally condemn the behavior exhibited by Sam Johnson in a recent video widely circulated on social media. After investigating the matter and speaking to individuals involved, the VisuWell Board of Directors has chosen to terminate Mr. Johnson from his position as CEO, effective immediately.”
Jacob again posted on TikTok sharing that Sam had approached them and started throwing homophobic insults at them. He said, “This man comes up and he’s about an inch away from my boyfriend and he says ‘What are you wearing?’ And he’s like, ‘A dress, why?’ And he’s like ‘Why are you wearing that? You shouldn’t be wearing that.’”
Jacob said Sam appeared drunk and was making fun of Stevens by saying he is looking “ridiculous” and “disgusting and “men shouldn’t be wearing this.”
Stevens shared with Newsweek about Sam’s claim that the duo was being vulgar, “We never had any type of vulgar language until this gentleman approached and started harassing us.”
Stevens’s mom, Dia Morgan told NBC News that Stevens was shaken up due to the incident. She said her son had “every bit of courage” as he stood up for himself. She continued on by saying, “If you let people like this guy continue to do this, then that’s how you beat people’s spirits. I mean, I’m incredibly proud of my son… [but] It’s heartbreaking for a mother.”
